Wuzup?

You guys ever talk about grateful dead music here or do you just fight all the time?

I've been lurking for a month or more, and it seems that half of the time is spent responding to posters who are clearly dipshits. Why? They feed off your responses and continue solely because they are getting a rise.

It's like a four year old: give into the constant whining and the whining will double next time around.

Suppose Smokey and the bandaid posted and nobody replied?

Smokey and Tito . . . . who cares? Old news, don'tcha think?
Where are the posters and posts that lurkers like me come to read--and that used to fill these pages? What is so great about the interlopers that they merit your attention? They are boring to me. More Dead, less Tito.

C'mon. Let's have more of Somdarkhollow on 1979 and Cliff on the early years and . . . . maybe a few other stalwarts will come back and fill us in on the finer points of the music.

(I would ask who smi2les is, but a) I don't want to know and b) that would be the worst thing I could do!!!)

Oh, don't tell anyone I said this, but if I were you, I would "bump" your post by revising the title a tad cause it just got covered with crap. Up to you, but I tend to think folks will prefer it...Just add a legitimate question that you always wanted to ask, such as "what is the best show in 1968?"

Good to see you here--every post by a well intentioned forumite is one less of the other kind.

I would say that there have been quite a few interesting discussions of late: Arbuthnot & CreamPuffWar had a nice little exchange about DEAD music and movies, Bryan E, LightintoAshes and a few of us discussed the changing eras and musicianship as band members age, and then a number of folks interacted over currently available JGB material. All within the past 72 hrs.

Yes, it may only be half the time, but that half is more than worth the little time it takes me to find it every time.

Stick around and make it better.

Don't forget 12-29-68. First homework assignment.

William:

How could one lurk here for more than a few days and not read your praise for certain dates--especially 1968 (lol). Yes, I am your student. 1968 is the year of the super nova. Amazing watching them learn how to move from ragged (but beautiful) discoveries of the power to harnassing that power by the end of the year. Whew!

And yes--I would not hang here if there was nothing to read.

(and I do not mean to slight all of you by mentioning only 2 forumites).

O Kee Dough Key: thanks for the kind words. You have earned your first merit badge as far as I am concerned.

Glad to have you aboard. With members like you joining up, we can't help but go up from here...

Thanks. Next assignment: 9-19-70

Another place for Dead discussions is the Deadhook forum....old valued contributors like ghostofpig fled there when they couldn't stand all the bickering here. It's a friendlier place.
On the other hand, there are far more Dead-related posts here, in-between the silliness.

Please don't misunderstand:

Bickering among friends is a fun sport--because even of you go over the top, you still shake hands and laugh. I know it is the music that brings you all here--the music and fellowship.

Without the occasional flame, there can be no fire. I just flinch when the woods burn down.

Good points.

If a butthole posts in the forest and no one responds, does it still make a noise?

So a guy makes a few hundred references to 1979, does that warrant labelling?

Maybe so, but I do try to have SOME variety. Don't get me started on the Jack Straw from 10/20/84.

Hey SDH, have you heard JGB from 12.20.79? Was organizing my discs (finally!) and came across it. Of course thought of you.

Now, don't you mean Arbuthnot? Or Ashes? If ever there were JGB fiends, those two are it (them).

Guess who still has the entire Fillmore set?

Well, when Arb came out with his new series I thought of getting it to him somehow. SDH shares my love for late 79 so that's the link.

Aren't brothers grand? For xmas maybe he should just wrap it up for you. ;-)

It's not like the fall of 1979 sucks or anything! Your enthusiasm is one of the rewards of this place.

Not to mention your twisted wit.

Hard to know where to start with a band that had a 30 year career. You guys are so much more knowledgeable than I.

Welcome Okee,

I think you will find that most of us have many more questions than answers. Additionally many of the most interesting posts are not SDH droning on about the fall of 79 and how great it is blah blah blah, rather they are started with a question that stimulates discussion. Join in, ask away and have some fun!!

Hey SDH, is being able to recite all GD 79 shows from memory backwards while standing on your head a bad thing? I think Not.

That said I would like to point you to the 7-1-73 recommended by the skuzzlebutt among us. (Yes, you can take a break from 79)

Amen. Welcome aboard and let's talk Grateful Dead. I too get tired of clicking on a post only to find a string of childish name-calling. Unfortunately, I think you came in at a bad time. I have been a regular visitor to this site since 2004 (only recently started posting). In the early days there was much more of a focus on the music (probabaly because you could still download here). Tito roamed this site then too but his posts were diluted by legitimate threads. He disappeared for a while but resurfaced out of the blue. Please, for the love of god ignore this guy everyone. Perhaps, he will go away again. There are actually a lot of intelligent people here that know an awful lot about the band and (more importantly) their music. Stick around and you might learn something. I certainly have!
